Day 3
Isaiah 58 / Genesis 27 / Psalm 122
Meditation:
The great injustice of Jacob stealing the blessing from Esau seems worlds away from the pictures of peace, justice, and joy of today’s Psalm. However, there is an interesting parallel between Isaac’s prayer for Jacob (“O, the smell of my son”) and the prayer for Jerusalem (“O Jerusalem, what a magnificent city).
Both prayers are very sensory and remind us the blessings of God are not just theoretical, but are those things touch, smell, and taste. Both Jacob and Jerusalem are blessed in ways which others will notice. Despite these similarities however, the joys enjoyed by the crowds of people who are feeling at home in Jerusalem are utterly incompatible with the dejected Esau who is forever on the outside looking in.
Question:
“How can I include those today who are on the outside looking in?”
Prayer:
Lord, thank you that I live in the reality where every tribe and every nation is invited to be blessed and none are left out. I praise you heavenly Father that out of your abundance you always have more to give and no one goes away with empty hands or broken hearts. Help me today to see those whose hands are empty and hearts are broken and to love them like you have loved me.
